Some of the most common questions I am asked are:
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation that allows direct interaction with the subconscious mind. It has been found that during hypnosis people are much more open to helpful suggestions for change.
Does it really work?
It sure does. Hypnosis, as it is know now, has been used since the 1800's and was used then by surgeons before anesthesia was even invented.
How many sessions will I need?
That really depends on the client and the issue being addressed. Generally, I would say to expect three to six sessions.
Does my doctor need to know I'm getting hypnotherapy?
There are some cases where a doctor's permission is required prior to a hypnotherapy session. If we are working on something that has been diagnosed by a doctor, physical or mental, then the doctor should know about the hypnosis in the event changes are needed medication.
Can everyone be hypnotized?
Most people can be hypnotized. It should be said, though, that if a person does not want to be hypnotized, they can't be. It's not something that can be forced upon another person.
What about kids? Are they good candidates for hypnosis?
Absolutely. Children are some of the best hypnotic clients. They tend to have wonderful imaginations, so they can be easy to work with.
Will I quack like a duck at a really inappropriate moment?
No, you will not! A person cannot be made to do something that they would not otherwise be willing to do. We will be working together to make changes that you are wanting to make.
Will I remember anything?
Absolutely. In the light and medium stages of hypnosis, the client will be fully aware of what is being said and done. When they are brought out of hypnosis, they will remember everything. In the deep stages of hypnosis, most people hear and know what is happening.
What if I don't wake up?
Hypnosis is not sleep. We use the word sleep often, but that is only referring to body sleep. What you feel is what it's like when you are asleep at night; only in hypnosis, your mind is awake. It is possible that a client could come out of hypnosis and fall into sleep, but during hypnosis, you are not actually asleep.
Isn't hypnosis just voodoo or smoke and mirrors?
Hypnosis is a scientifically proven therapy. It has nothing to do with the occult or the supernatural. As humans, we can and do enter hypnosis several times a day when we engage in things like watching TV, reading, exercising (being in The Zone). Have you ever driven from point A to point B and not remembered the drive? If so, you were in a light state of hypnosis. Daydreaming is another light state of hypnosis.
